SYDNEY, 5 Sep, 2016 // — National Media, organisers of the unique business and technology event Accounting Business Expo, have announced the appointment of accounting technology analyst and commentator Sholto Macpherson as Head of Content. An award-winning business technology journalist and editor of DigitalFirst.com, Mr Macpherson authors a world-renowned blog on technology, workflow and business models for cloud accounting firms and is a regular contributor to accounting and business magazines, websites, broadcasts and conferences in Australia and North America.
As Head of Content Mr Macpherson will play a critical role in delivering an unprecedented education program for Accounting Business Expo. He will be responsible for curating a high quality and forward-thinking conference program by engaging key stakeholders across the globe, collaborating with industry partners and sponsors, and managing all editorial aspects of the program.
According to Macpherson, an event like Accounting Business Expo is much needed in Australia and long overdue. “Australia needs an event like this, one that draws together the many strands in the accounting and fintech industry and showcases the greatest ideas and products on offer. An event that connects the accounting community and inspires us all to find better ways of working,” he said.
“Australia is a terrific showcase for the future of the accounting profession. In many ways, we are global leaders in the transition to a cloud-centric world. To have an event that not only showcases the innovation happening here, but helps accountants, bookkeepers and finance leaders embrace this new era is exciting. No-one has put together an independent event at this scale before and the timing couldn’t be better.” said Macpherson.
“When I visited Laura Venables, Mark Harvey and the team at National Media they impressed me right out of the gate. “The company has a very strong track record in launching highly successful business events that quickly become a mainstay of each industry. I have no doubt that Accounting Business Expo will match the high expectations Mark and Laura have set for it.”
The Head of Content will play a pivotal role in making Accounting Business Expo the nation’s leading business event for all accounting, bookkeeping and finance professionals. While technology is the key driver of change within the industry, the Expo goes beyond technology and covers all aspects of running an accounting or bookkeeping practice, or the finance function with a business. The program will include sessions on compliance and tax automation, marketing and social media, financial planning, advisory and virtual CFO, people management, outsourcing and offshoring, practice management and more.
We are really excited to have Sholto joining the team, it’s a significant development for us and the event,” said Event Director, Laura Venables. “The vision behind Accounting Business Expo is to bring together the collective knowledge of the whole accounting community, inspiring change and facilitating better ways of achieving success. The Head of Content must be an advocate in driving these developments and uphold an impartial perspective. Sholto really shares our vision, and has demonstrated a unique ability to really move minds and inspire positive change – working together presented itself, mutually as a very natural choice,” she said.
