SYDNEY, 3 Nov, 2016 // — Some of Australia’s leading accounting and finance professionals have been selected to work alongside organisers of Accounting Business Expo, the nation’s biggest accounting exhibition and conference.
National Media, the company behind the launch of the expo, has been working for some months on formulating an executive advisory board to help shape the development and strategic direction of the event.
Event director, Laura Venables, highlighted the important role the new advisory board will provide in ensuring the event meets the high expectations of all stakeholders.
“The advisory board plays a critical role in helping us shape the education program, identify the right type and mix of products and solutions to invite, and ultimately advocate to their peers the importance of attending this event, said Ms Venables.
“To ensure all of these points are met, and that we deliver real value for our exhibitors and visitors, it was important the diversity of the board be representative of our target audience,” she added. “The positive response and willingness to support this initiative has blown me away, and the level of insight shared with us relating to the challenges and opportunities facing accountancy profession has been invaluable,” Ms Venables said.
The make-up of the board will continue to grow and evolve with an invitation for other accountancy and finance professionals to become involved. “The ideas and feedback from the advisory board have already contributed significantly to the direction of the event,” said Ms Venables. That said, I am interested to hear from anyone else out there who would like the opportunity to be part of this important movement.”

Chairman of Interactive Accounting, Guy Pearson, said he was delighted to be involved with the board and contribute to the success of the inaugural event.
“I’m excited to be a part of what I feel will be the event of the year for the accounting industry,” he said. “The program is diverse and will cover a lot of great topics including the big question of how you can future proof your accounting business, and it’s not just all about technology, there needs to be a real focus on people skills and building a team, which is a huge passion of mine.”
Steph Hinds from Growthwise considers Accounting Business Expo an unprecedented opportunity for the industry. “An event for accountants with the opportunity for accountants to curate the content is exciting, this is just what the Australian accounting industry needs to keep pushing forward.”
Matt Paff, director of Value Adders started blogging on accounting and business technology because of his frustration by the lack of independence in what was being pushed out. “I was excited when I heard about the Accounting Business Expo initiative and delighted to have been asked to be part of the Advisory Board. I see the event helping to cut through the spin on a major scale, offering people the opportunity to discover in one, independent event, the present and future of their profession.”
Commenting from the Bookkeeping perspective, Leanne Berry, director of Love Your Numbers said she was thrilled to be involved in such a refreshing initiative. “I’m elated to see the support shown in actively promoting bookkeepers and accountants coming together to network, learn from each other and foster deeper relationships.”
A holistic approach to the business of accounting and time efficiency was what most excited the director of Anderson Tax, Debra Anderson, to get involved. “With so many different events happening throughout the year, for an accountant it can be difficult and expensive to be across everything, so what really sold the concept of Accounting Business Expo for me was not only the vendor agnostic model, but the ‘all areas of business’ approach to learning. This will be a real time-saver for me and my colleagues.”
Sholto Macpherson who has been appointed head of content for Accounting Business Expo believes the need and timing for an event like this is perfect.
“Australia needs an event like this. No-one has put together an independent event at this scale before nor given accountants this opportunity to voice their needs on a national level, and the timing couldn’t be better,’ said Mr Macpherson. “To have an event that not only showcases the innovation happening here, but helps accountants, bookkeepers and finance leaders embrace this new era is exciting.” he added.
